The Restaurant at The Riverside Inn - Aymestrey
Carrot
Restaurant
Imagine a most tender rack of new season Welsh Border lamb. Infuse a sublime combination of wild garlic and honey; the garlic picked from the very riverbank by which you sat and drank your local cider just this evening. Serve it with the freshest of seasonal baby carrots, lightly caramelised to perfection. A lovely puree adds a further freshness of peas. Finish the dish with a subtle mint jus. Present with side servings of savoury potatoes and vegetables of the day.

A typical dish created by our head chef Andrew Link and his team. A wonderful synergy of fine, local ingredients and equally fine imaginative cooking skill applied with passion.

Surround the finished article in a lovely relaxed, informal environment of oak beams, stone, pine tables and a log fire. Service performed with a smile.

Or eat outside at lunchtime by the river. Choose from baguettes to rib-eye steaks, Caesar salads to seafood medleys, lamb tagine to freshly cooked fish in local ale batter with home made tartare sauce and Herefordshire Maris Piper chips

Omnivores, carnivores and vegetarians (welcomed and not treated as a nuisance!) are all catered for in our menu, as are celiacs and those needing dairy free options.

Our food can be described as truly local country style. At the Riverside we aim to let the abundance of local and British produce speak for itself. Sourcing only the best ingredients, having a respect and care for them, we aim to re-invent classic flavours in a refined modern way.

We are committed to using and supporting produce from our immediate surrounds. Snails from Creden Hill, potatoes from Ross, eggs from next door, longhorn beef from Craven Arms, venison from Ludlow, Berkshire cross Duroc pork from Kingsland, trout from Presteigne are just some of our ingredients. In all, over 40 of the best local suppliers provide the ingredients for our dishes.

To complement this, our own herb and vegetable gardens, the size of 5 allotments, yield the freshest of fresh fruit and vegetables, from garlic to shallots, beetroots to blackcurrants, lettuces to leeks. Over 30 different items. Here we talk about “food yards”, not “food miles”!

Come and see the gardens – they are really there!

Everything is freshly cooked. Soups, chutneys, puddings and ice-creams – all are made by us on the premises, please look at our pudding menu and ice-cream list where the traditional and the exotic are both to be found. For those partial to cheese, see our cheese board for interesting local offerings.

We are sure you will taste and see the dedication and enthusiasm of Andy and Rory, James and Anthony, our Riverside Chefs, who, incidentally are all Herefordshire born and bred. Winners of competitions and awards at the Hereford and Ludlow Food festivals, regularly giving demonstrations at local schools and shows, their reputation is deservedly growing in our locality.

Your table awaits!
